Political tensions rise in Northern Cyprus over UBP congress and medicine shortages

Political leaders in Northern Cyprus are raising alarms over internal party disputes and a growing public health crisis. Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Asım Akansoy has criticized the National Unity Party (UBP) congress process, describing it as a significant democracy issue. Akansoy questioned the lack of transparency regarding ballot counting and suggested that the internal political maneuvering undermines the rule of law and the integrity of the political system.

Simultaneously, concerns regarding the healthcare system have intensified. Figures such as Çakıcı have highlighted a critical shortage of essential medicines, noting that patients are struggling to find prescribed treatments at pharmacies. While political parties engage in internal candidate ranking disputes and legal challenges, critics argue that vital state services, specifically medicine procurement and hospital supplies, are being neglected, posing a direct threat to public health.
