Political uncertainty in Celaya and Culiacán
In Celaya, Guanajuato, authorities are reviewing the future of Daniel Nieto as head of the City Hall Secretariat. The review follows the dismissal of four employees, including former Delegate Coordinator Gerardo Álvarez, who allegedly participated in political promotion for Nieto and his wife, local deputy Edith Moreno. The municipal president stated that while the dismissals were based on citizen complaints and evidence of political proselytism, a final decision regarding Nieto's position cannot be made until his current leave of absence expires in approximately six weeks.
In Culiacán, Sinaloa, the municipal government remains in an interim state as the leave of absence for Mayor Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívil enters its sixth month. Interim Mayor Ana Miriam Ramos Villarreal indicated that the leave remains in effect while investigations into Gámez Mendívil's alleged links to organized crime continue. The political situation has drawn criticism from PRI legislators, who claim the lack of a definitive leadership transition is creating a governance crisis. Several figures, including Gámez Mendívil and the interim governor of Sinaloa, have reportedly appeared before the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR) as part of ongoing investigations.
