Political violence erupts in Thiruvananthapuram as BJP and Congress offices are targeted
Political tensions have escalated in Thiruvananthapuram following a series of attacks on party offices and activists. The BJP state office, Mararji Bhavan, was attacked by unidentified individuals, leading to police deployment at the premises. BJP National Secretary K Surendran alleged that Congress workers were responsible for the attack and noted that former state president P K Krishnadas had also been targeted.
In response, Pinarayi Vijayan accused the Youth Congress of a “planned act of violence” during a torchlight march. He claimed the march, while ostensibly protesting against Union Home Minister Amit Shah, actually targeted SFI activists and a university hostel to divert attention from state government issues such as power crises and medicine shortages.
Simultaneously, Congress offices faced retaliation. The Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee office was pelted with stones, and a fire was reported at the Neyyattinkara Anavoor Mandalam Committee office. Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan condemned the violence against Congress offices and promised strict legal action against the perpetrators.
