Politur operation at Juan Dolio beach sparks tension and chase in Dominican Republic
Members of the Dominican Republic Tourist Police (Politur) carried out an operation on Tuesday to remove tables and chairs used by beach‑side workers at Juan Dolio in San Pedro de Macorís. The removal led to a confrontation between an officer and a woman identified as Yomeri. According to preliminary reports, Yomeri’s teenage son intervened, prompting a pursuit by several officers. Witnesses said they heard gun‑fire‑like detonations during the chase, though authorities have not confirmed any injuries.
The incident escalated, requiring intervention by the national police and the Dominican Navy to restore order. Workers protested the seizure of their equipment and the alleged pursuit of the teenager. The Ministry of Tourism and other relevant agencies have been asked to investigate the event and facilitate dialogue on the use of public beach space for commercial activities.
