Polizia di Stato initiates technical role transitions and training

The Italian State Police (Polizia di Stato) has published the rankings for the 2023 transition procedure, allowing personnel to move into technical and scientific roles. As part of this process, 237 officers from various ranks, including inspectors, superintendents, and agents, will attend the 4th professional qualification course scheduled from September 21 to 25, 2026.

The training includes both in-person activities and e-learning modules. Participants are required to manage specific documentation, including attendance certificates and self-certifications regarding their training hours.

A significant consequence of this transition is the freezing of career progression. Under Legislative Decree no. 95 of 2017, officers moving into technical roles will not be eligible for further promotions via scrutiny or internal competition. They will remain in their current qualification level for the duration of their service. A legal challenge regarding this restriction was unsuccessful, as the TAR del Lazio upheld the regulations in a 2024 ruling.
