Polizia di Stato rescues two youths in Taranto area

A 20‑year‑old man attempted suicide by entering the sea at Lido Azzurro near Taranto. Police from the Squadra Volante responded after his parents alerted authorities, located his clothing on the beach and found him unconscious in the water. Officers pulled him ashore, cleared his airway and handed him to emergency services, and he was taken to the SS. Annunziata hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, an off‑duty officer from the Torino mobile police unit arrived at the scene of a serious road crash in Massafra, province of Taranto, after hearing a loud explosion. The 19‑year‑old driver was unconscious and the vehicle was at risk of fire. The officer called emergency services, cooled the engine with water, and provided first aid until the ambulance arrived. The teenager was transported in critical condition to the same SS. Annunziata hospital, where he later recovered and was reported out of life‑threatening danger.
