Donald Trump perceived to prioritize personal wealth, poll finds

A new nationwide poll conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research reveals that a majority of U.S. adults believe President Donald Trump is profiting from his presidency in unethical or illegal ways. Approximately 60 percent of respondents believe he is either illegally profiting or acting unethically, with 40 percent specifically citing illegal actions.

The survey indicates a perception that Trump prioritizes personal wealth over national interests. Over half of those surveyed believe he has prioritized his personal business interests “a lot” since returning to the White House, while only about 23 percent believe he places equal emphasis on the country as a whole. Furthermore, only 11 percent of adults feel that Trump represents regular Americans.

These findings coincide with reports of record income for the Trump Organization. Financial disclosures from June revealed that Trump earned over $1 billion from cryptocurrency ventures following the loosening of industry regulations. The poll also notes that Trump has lifted a self-imposed ban on his family striking private-sector deals overseas, a move that has raised questions regarding potential conflicts of interest.
