Poll shows majority of Americans foresee extended US‑Iran war
A Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,019 U.S. adults finds that 79% expect the United States' military involvement in the conflict with Iran to continue for an extended period, up from 65% in late March. Only 18% believe the war will end quickly. About 37% of respondents approve of U.S. strikes against Iran, which resumed on June 26 after Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The poll also reveals that 60% anticipate gasoline prices will worsen over the next year because of the war, and half say the conflict has not been worth its costs. President Donald Trump announced the reinstatement of a blockade on Iranian shipping in the Gulf and a 20% reimbursement on cargo transiting the strait. Rising living‑cost concerns are viewed as a political risk for the Republican Party ahead of the November midterm elections, where it could lose its House majority and possibly the Senate.
