Pollen levels linked to increased asthma emergencies in Bavaria

A study conducted by the Institute for Environmental Medicine and Integrative Health at the University of Augsburg has found that birch and grass pollen concentrations are significantly linked to an increase in outpatient emergency asthma treatments in Bavaria.

By utilizing automated pollen measurements in Augsburg, Munich, and Nuremberg, researchers were able to account for environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and air pollution. The study notes that the effects of specific pollen types can vary and may occur with a delay. Researchers suggest that real-time automated pollen data could improve early warning systems, helping patients adjust treatments and allowing doctors to prepare for periods of increased risk.
