Polperro, the Cornish fishing village known as ‘Little Greece’

Polperro, a quiet fishing village located in Cornwall between Looe and Fowey, has earned the nickname ‘Little Greece’ due to its whitewashed houses and views of the clear blue sea. The car-free village is home to approximately 2,000 residents and attracts tens of thousands of tourists annually.

The village has a notable history as a smuggling hotspot during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. During this period, local fishermen engaged in the illegal trade of brandy and tobacco to evade British wartime taxes. Today, visitors can explore the area's history at a local museum or navigate the village via a scenic walk from the upper car park in Crumplehorn.
