PLL LOT suspends several European routes due to fuel costs

Polish Airlines LOT has announced significant changes to its winter flight schedule, resulting in the suspension of several popular European routes until April. Affected connections include flights from Warsaw to Bologna, as well as routes from Krakow to Madrid, Rome, and Barcelona.

According to spokesperson Krzysztof Moczulski, the decision stems from a profitability analysis driven by soaring aviation fuel prices. Fuel costs, which accounted for approximately 25% of total expenditures earlier this year, have risen to as much as 40%. This increase, coupled with intense competition in the Central European market, has made maintaining certain routes economically unviable.

Despite these cuts, LOT is expanding its long-haul capabilities. The airline has commenced flights to Bangkok, plans to launch services to Hanoi by late March, and will add four new Dreamliners to its fleet to increase frequency on existing routes and support new destinations.
