Polska Żegluga Bałtycka faces wage arrears and port debts
Polska Żegluga Bałtycka (PŻB), the operator of Polferries, is facing significant financial difficulties, including unpaid wages for crews and outstanding debts to Swedish ports.
Reports indicate that some Polish sailors received only a 600 euro advance toward their August salaries, with no specific date provided for the remaining balance. In Sweden, the company owes millions of kronor to the port of Ystad and faces similar payment issues in Nynäshamn. While Stockholm Hamn noted that most invoices have been settled following a restructuring process, some arrears remain.
A company spokesperson, Jolanta Kowalska, stated that the firm is in contact with both ports and crews, asserting that all arrears will be settled soon. The company has also confirmed it is in talks with a strategic investor to stabilize its financial situation and has fulfilled its obligations regarding the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to ensure continued ferry operations. Despite the financial strain, ferry routes between Gdańsk and Nynäshamn are expected to continue due to high demand.
