Polyarc, developer of the Moss VR series, shuts down after 12 years

Polyarc, the Seattle-based video game developer known for the acclaimed virtual reality series Moss, has announced it is shutting down after nearly 12 years of operation. The studio officially ceased active development on September 11, 2026.

In a farewell message shared via LinkedIn, the studio described the closure as the end of an era, thanking employees and the gaming community for their support. To assist displaced staff, Polyarc has released a reverse recruiting spreadsheet containing contact information for approximately 29 employees across disciplines such as art, design, animation, and engineering.

The studio’s most notable work includes the Moss franchise, featuring the character Quill, which helped define early VR platforming. Polyarc’s final release was Moss: The Forgotten Relic, a collection released in July that brought the series to non-VR platforms including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo.

The closure occurs amid a period of significant volatility in the gaming industry. Recent years have seen widespread layoffs and studio closures at major companies like Meta, which shuttered several VR-focused studios, and various other developers facing funding challenges.
