Polycystic Ovary Syndrome linked to potential cognitive changes in women

A scientific review published in the Journal of the Endocrine Society suggests a potential link between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), also referred to as Polycystic Metabolic Endocrine Syndrome (PMOS), and cognitive changes in women.

Research indicates that women with PMOS may experience weaker memory, attention, and changes in brain structure and connectivity. Dr. Ricardo Aziz of the University of Alabama at Birmingham noted that these findings could indicate an increased risk for Alzheimer's and dementia, though direct evidence regarding increased dementia risk remains inconsistent across different studies.

Researchers suggest that these cognitive issues might stem from related health conditions such as insulin resistance, obesity, and chronic inflammation rather than the syndrome itself. Further long-term research is required to determine the exact biological pathways and whether these hormonal and metabolic changes directly impact brain function.
