Polymarket added again to Italy’s illegal betting blacklist

Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) has placed the prediction‑market platform Polymarket on its blacklist of unauthorised gambling sites, stating that the service operates without a licence. The regulator reiterated that, despite Polymarket’s claim of offering financial products rather than betting options, it falls under Italy’s gambling law and therefore must comply with licensing, AML and consumer‑protection rules.

The move follows a previous ban in 2025 and a brief relaunch after a legal settlement. ADM indicated the case may be referred to the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office. The decision could affect Polymarket’s sponsorship deal with football club S.S. Lazio, as advertising by unlicensed operators is prohibited. The platform had attracted around €3.5 billion in wagers on a World Cup winner contract in the weeks leading up to the block.
