Polymarket challenges French website block amid Brazil scam report
Polymarket has announced it will legally challenge a decision by France’s Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) to block all access to its platform. While Polymarket had been preventing French users from trading since November 2024, the new regulatory order requires internet service providers to block the entire website. The company argues the measure is disproportionate, as it prevents users from accessing information, market probabilities, and data regarding political and economic events, even when they are not attempting to trade.
In Brazil, a report from the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) highlights a significant rise in digital fraud. Annual financial losses from scams in Brazil now exceed R$21.2 billion, with 81% of the adult population frequently exposed to scam attempts. The report notes that while the Pix instant payment system has increased transaction speed, it has also facilitated faster fraud. Experts suggest a shift toward predictive prevention through multi-sector collaboration between banks, telecommunications, and government agencies to intercept coerced transactions in real time.
