Polynesian cultural events scheduled in San Jose and Maui

The Lōkahi Polynesian Dance Group is presenting its 27th annual Hō’ike at the Hammer Theatre Center in San Jose on August 15 and 16. The two-night production focuses on the island of Maui, featuring hula and Ori Tahiti performances by dancers ranging in age from two to over sixty.

Separately, the Maui Huliau Foundation will host the annual Huliau Food & Film Festival on August 29 at Kapuakukui Farm in Kula. The event will feature farm-to-table dining with nine chef stations using locally sourced ingredients, alongside hula, live music, and student-produced films. Proceeds from the festival support the foundation’s youth programs in environmental filmmaking and other initiatives.
