Polytechnic University of Portalegre launches inquiry into alleged sexual harassment

The Polytechnic University of Portalegre (UPP) has initiated an internal inquiry to investigate allegations of attempted sexual harassment involving students. Vice-rector Fernando Rebola stated that while the institution has not received a formal complaint, it became aware of the situation through social media.

Rebola clarified that the reported incidents do not constitute sexual abuse but rather alleged sexual harassment. The events reportedly did not take place on university premises and are not related to academic hazing traditions (praxe), as they occurred prior to the hazing week and involved returning students rather than new arrivals.

The university is currently gathering information and interviewing witnesses to clarify the context. If the inquiry uncovers grounds for disciplinary action, the institution will proceed with formal disciplinary processes. Local police (PSP) have indicated they have not yet received any official complaints regarding the matter.
