Polytechnic University of Timișoara launches drone engineering program

The Polytechnic University of Timișoara (UPT) has launched Romania’s first bachelor’s degree program dedicated to drone engineering. Conducted in English, the four-year curriculum is designed to prepare students to design, operate, and integrate unmanned aerial systems using autonomy and artificial intelligence while adhering to European aeronautical standards.

For the autumn 2026 admission session, 35 places are available, consisting of 20 state-funded spots and 15 tuition-based spots. Students will initially register through the Faculty of Mechanics and will be enrolled in the newly established Faculty of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems, which is scheduled to begin operations in late September.

The academic program covers fundamental disciplines such as mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and aerodynamics, alongside advanced specializations including flight dynamics, propulsion systems, machine learning, and computer vision. Students will also work with technologies like the Robot Operating System (ROS). The initiative aims to strengthen ties with the aerospace industry and prepare graduates for careers in autonomous systems, embedded software, and aerospace research.
