Pomegranate consumption may support liver health

Regular pomegranate consumption may support liver health due to its high concentration of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, such as polyphenols and punicalagin. These substances may help neutralize free radicals and reduce the activity of enzymes responsible for inflammation.

Research suggests several potential benefits, including the protection of liver cells from DNA damage through antioxidants like Vitamin C, anthocyanins, and ellagic acid. Additionally, pomegranate may support individuals with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease. Some studies have observed improvements in liver enzymes, such as ALT, AST, and GGT, in individuals with obesity and metabolic disorders after eight weeks of daily pomegranate juice consumption.

Beyond direct liver support, pomegranate may assist in regulating blood sugar by improving insulin sensitivity and helping to balance cholesterol levels. However, experts emphasize that pomegranate is not a substitute for medical treatment, and there is currently insufficient evidence to claim it can cure liver diseases. It should be consumed in moderation.
