Pomán council orders mayor Gordillo to release withheld municipal funds
The Concejo Deliberante de Pomán approved a resolution demanding that Mayor Francisco Gordillo and municipal treasurer Maciel Quinteros transfer funds retained since January 2026 for the council’s operational budget and staff salaries. The council set a 72‑hour deadline and warned that failure to comply would lead to a criminal complaint for alleged abuse of authority and neglect of public duties.
The council notes that the 2025 ordinance establishes a monthly petty‑cash allocation of 2 million pesos for the legislative body, and that the 2026 budget already includes sufficient resources for a permanent staff of up to 21 employees. Council members criticize the executive for hiring more than 20 additional personnel while withholding the council’s funds, describing the situation as unequal treatment and a breach of the separation of powers. If the deadline passes, the council will refer the case to the Ministry of Public Prosecutor, the Tribunal de Cuentas, and the Directorate of Municipal Affairs.
