Pomona celebrates anniversary with culture and tourism
The parish of Pomona, located in the Pastaza canton, is holding a series of activities to commemorate its anniversary of parish status. The celebrations, scheduled for September 25 and 26, feature a diverse agenda including cultural, gastronomic, tourist, and sporting events.
A central highlight is the Productive, Gastronomic, and Tourist Fair held in the parish's central park, showcasing local products and traditional dishes such as tilapia maitos. The program also includes the 'Guayusa Upina,' a dawn activity aimed at reviving Amazonian traditions through the sharing of guayusa tea and ancestral storytelling.
For the first time, the festivities will include a five-kilometer trail marathon. Despite these celebrations, parish president Enrique Vargas noted that the community faces budgetary limitations due to reduced contributions from the Municipality and the Prefecture following COOTAD regulations.
