Pomona murder conspiracy and extortion case leads to nine charges
Nine individuals have been charged in connection with a murder conspiracy and extortion scheme in Pomona, allegedly linked to the Mexican Mafia. Authorities state the victim was targeted over a perceived debt and alleged violations of gang rules, which resulted in the victim being placed on an “86” list that barred him from entering certain areas under threat of death.
During a July incident, a gunman reportedly fired between 12 and 15 rounds at the victim’s vehicle while walking toward it. The shooting also struck a vehicle parked outside a church. Investigators allege that one defendant attempted to obstruct the investigation by removing spent ammunition casings from the scene.
Following the shooting, gang associates allegedly demanded $2,000 from the victim to lift the threat of violence and return his vehicle. The investigation, conducted by the FBI’s San Gabriel Valley Safe Streets Task Force and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, resulted in the seizure of approximately $200,000 in cash.
