Pomorie Municipality seeks strategic investor for local hospital

The Pomorie Municipal Council has authorized the search for a strategic partner to invest in and modernize the Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment (MBAL) Pomorie. The initiative aims to address long-standing issues including financial difficulties, aging infrastructure, a shortage of medical specialists, and a limited range of medical services.

Under the proposed development concept, the municipality intends to retain 51% of the capital and majority control over management. A strategic partner would acquire a 49% stake through a new cash contribution to the hospital's capital. These funds are intended for upgrading the facility, purchasing modern medical equipment, and expanding services such as diagnostic imaging and operating block modernization.

The hospital has faced significant financial challenges, reporting losses of 708,902 BGN in 2024 and 885,000 BGN in 2023. To maintain operations, the municipality recently approved a temporary financial aid of 511,290 EUR, which must be repaid by the end of 2026. Total municipal support for the hospital has exceeded 2.85 million BGN over recent years.
