Medical milestones and healthcare appeals in Montenegro and Bosnia

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the association Pomozi. ba has launched a humanitarian appeal for Fata Karač, a retired educator from Novi Travnik. Karač is battling breast cancer that has metastasized to her brain and liver. Her family requires 60,888.89 KM for specialized medication not covered by the Health Insurance Institute.

In Montenegro, the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) successfully performed the country's first pediatric kidney transplant. The procedure involved a four-year-old boy and his mother, who served as the donor. The operation was conducted by Montenegrin doctors in collaboration with specialists from London's Great Ormond Street Hospital and Guy's Hospital. Health Minister Vojislav Šimun noted the event as a milestone for the national transplant medicine development plan.

Additionally, a cancer patient in Montenegro has formally petitioned the Ministry of Health to procure a PET/CT scanner for the KCCG. The request follows her personal experience with breast cancer diagnosis and aims to reduce the need for citizens to seek such diagnostics through private providers.
