Pompei mourns Michela Orofino after fatal childbirth in London

The community of Pompei gathered on September 19 to mourn Michela Orofino, a young woman who passed away in London in late August while giving birth to her first child. The funeral service was held at the San Giuseppe Parish on via Aldo Moro.

Orofino, who worked in the fields of education and pedagogy, was known for creating children's books featuring a character named ‘Gianni la Giraffa’. Her death has deeply affected her hometown, prompting a message of condolence from Pompei Mayor Giuseppe Tortora, who expressed the community's profound shock and offered sincere closeness to her family.
