Pompeii archaeological projects reveal new structures and fund restorations

Archaeological research and restoration efforts are advancing in Pompeii, revealing new details about the ancient city's structures. The “Villa of Cicero Project,” involving several American universities, has utilized non-invasive geophysical investigations to determine that the Villa of Cicero is significantly more extensive than previously thought. These studies also suggest the potential existence of an additional, previously unknown structure located between the Villa of Cicero and the Villa of Diomede.

In a separate development, restoration work has begun on the House of Marcus Fabius Rufus, considered one of the city's most grand residences. The project, costing 1,462,000 euros, is being fully funded by a private sponsor, the company PompeiAR. The restoration aims to preserve frescoes, including the famous “Venus of Pompeii,” and will eventually make the residence, which has been inaccessible since 1980, available to the public.
