Pompeii hosts ancient carriage discovery and giant lobster art exhibition

Archaeologists announced the discovery of a well‑preserved four‑wheeled iron carriage near the Villa Civita Giuliana, a site north of the ancient city. The vehicle, featuring metal armrests, a metal backrest and a seat with impressions of wheat ears, is considered unique in Italy and dates to the Roman period.

At the same time, the archaeological park of Pompeii opened a contemporary art exhibition titled “Philip Colbert in Pompeii: Pop Mythology”. British artist Philip Colbert installed more than 30 monumental lobster sculptures made of stainless steel and black metal throughout the ruins, marking the first large‑scale contemporary show in the park in three decades. The works aim to create a dialogue between ancient heritage and modern pop culture.
