Pompeiopolis Ancient City yields Roman-era mosaic and Eros head

Archaeological excavations at the Pompeiopolis Ancient City in the Taşköprü district of Kastamonu have uncovered significant artifacts dating back to the Roman Imperial Period and Late Antiquity.

Researchers discovered a well-preserved floor mosaic covering approximately 105 square meters in the central nave of a basilica. The mosaic, which features geometric compositions, is dated to the 4th century AD. Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy noted that excavations are ongoing to reveal the remainder of the mosaic floor.

Additionally, an Eros head dating to the second half of the 2nd century AD was unearthed in the Pastoforion section of the structure. These findings provide new insights into the artistic and cultural richness of Pompeiopolis, which served as the provincial capital of the Paphlagonia region during the Roman era.
