Ponatinib trial shows 68% treatment‑free remission in CML
A clinical trial (ResToP) funded by the CRIS Contra el Cáncer foundation evaluated a temporary two‑year course of the drug ponatinib in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia who had previously achieved a good response and attempted treatment withdrawal. After the second discontinuation, 68.2 % of participants remained in disease control one year later, and 95 % showed no relapse or progression to advanced phases.
The results were presented at the European Hematology Congress. Researchers Dr. Gonzalo Carreño of Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre in Madrid and Dr. Joaquín Martínez, director of CRIS Contra el Cáncer, highlighted the potential of treatment‑free remission to reduce side‑effects and improve quality of life for CML patients.
