Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor marks 100 years of influence

During a ‘Malam Peradaban’ event held in Jakarta to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (PMDG), Deputy Speaker of the MPR Hidayat Nur Wahid highlighted the institution's significant role in Indonesia's constitutional history.

Hidayat noted that Gontor alumni have held prominent positions in the country's legislative bodies from the era of the Provisional People's Consultative Assembly (MPRS) through the Reformasi period. He cited the first Chairman of the MPRS, KH Dr. Idham Chalid, as an alumnus, and noted his own role as a former Chairman of the MPR.

The event, themed ‘One Hundred Years of Educating, Building Civilization,’ emphasized how the school integrates religious values with academic knowledge. Hidayat stated that the values instilled at the pesantren, such as ethics and a spirit of struggle, have contributed to the national education framework as outlined in the 1945 Constitution.
