Pondok Pinang residents file police report over loud firecrackers

A celebration for Maulid Nabi in the Pondok Pinang area of South Jakarta has led to a police report following intense disturbances caused by loud firecrackers. Residents reported that the continuous, bomb-like explosions occurring in the early hours of October 3, 2026, caused significant distress. One resident, Amanda Andono, reported that the noise triggered a seizure in her child, who has special needs, and caused concern for her elderly mother.

Attempts to protest the noise resulted in physical confrontations. Andono alleged that she was pushed, pulled, and had water sprayed on her face by individuals involved in the event. Her son also reportedly sustained scratches while attempting to protect her.

Local authorities attempted mediation, but the process reached a deadlock, prompting legal action. Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung commented on the incident, stating that using firecrackers late at night is unethical and disrupts public order, emphasizing the community's right to peace during resting hours.
