Ponferrada awards police officials silver badge and reports 1,600 municipal improvement projects

The Ponferrada City Council approved the Municipal Police Silver Badge for National Police commissioner Roberto Rubio and Civil Guard traffic lieutenant José Manuel González, recognizing their cooperation with local police. Vox highlighted the award, noting an 11.4% rise in the crime index and calling for more police presence in the city.

The council also reported that 1,600 municipal works were completed between May and July 2026. Projects included repairs in schools, medical centres, and other public buildings; upgrades to plumbing, electricity, masonry, painting and carpentry; 230 signage interventions; and work on urban furniture, parks, and ornamental fountains. Road repairs accounted for 402 interventions, and additional support was provided for various events.
