Ponferrada launches EU‑funded Oasis water‑play park

The Ponferrada City Council, through the Environment Department led by councilor Carlos Fernández, has opened the "Oasis Parque de la Concordia" – a water‑play area designed to provide relief from summer heat. The €135,000 project is fully financed by European Union funds from the NextGeneration EU recovery plan and is part of the municipality’s Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan.

The park features nine interactive water games, low‑energy misting posts powered by solar panels, and a sustainable urban drainage system that stores and re‑uses water to irrigate nearby green spaces. The design emphasizes safety, energy efficiency, and climate‑adaptation for public spaces.

The initiative aims to make municipal parks more comfortable and environmentally friendly for residents while showcasing Ponferrada’s commitment to climate‑responsive urban development.
