Ponferrada launches new vocational degree in Emergencies and Civil Protection

The regional government of Castilla y León and the Ponferrada City Council signed a cooperation agreement to start a middle‑level vocational cycle in Emergencies and Civil Protection at the CIFP of Ponferrada. The pact, signed by Education Councilor María Pardo Álvarez and Mayor Marco Morala, provides €170,000 over two years to fund teaching staff and resources for 30 student places. Practical training will be carried out at the city’s fire brigade park, giving students hands‑on experience with emergency equipment and professionals. The initiative aims to strengthen professional‑technical education in the region, which already hosts more than 1,500 FP students across five centres, and to maintain the high employment insertion rate of over 80 % for FP graduates.

The programme will run for the duration of the agreement, reinforcing Ponferrada’s ambition to become a recognised hub for higher education in north‑west Spain.
