Ponferrada Mayor announces likely site for new health center

Ponferrada Mayor Marco Morala announced that the plot on Obispo Osmundo street will likely be the site for the new Ponferrada I health center. This follows a successful legal appeal to resolve land registration issues that had previously blocked the transfer of the property to the Junta de Castilla y León.

Morala accused the former mayor and current PSOE spokesperson, Olegario Ramón, of allowing the process to remain stalled for four years. While expropriation agreements were signed in December 2019, the land was not registered in the name of the City Council, a necessary step for the transfer. The current administration reported that a registrar's negative ruling was overturned following an appeal.

This location is considered more viable than an alternative site near the old Carmen cemetery, which faces unresolved claims from local property owners. Additionally, Morala is negotiating with the Junta to acquire the old health center building once the new one is completed, intending to relocate municipal services to save on annual rental costs.
