Ponferrada officials condemn vandalism at Camino de Santiago rest area

The Ponferrada City Council has expressed dismay following acts of vandalism and theft at a pilgrim rest area located at the exit of Campo on the Camino de Santiago. Recent incidents include the theft of several recently planted shrubs in the landscaped area and previous graffiti on a hut being restored by students.

The site is currently being rehabilitated by students from the Ponferrada and La Tebaida mixed employment and training program. David Pacios, the delegated councilor for the Escuela Taller, described the behavior as “especially sad” and “demoralizing,” noting that it undermines the professional training and dedication of the students working to improve public spaces for both locals and pilgrims.
