Ponferrada Mayor defends response to dilapidated buildings
The Mayor of Ponferrada, Marco Morala, has defended the city council's response to the proliferation of security fences used to cordon off dilapidated buildings and vacant lots. This follows criticism from the PSOE, which argued that these fences have become a permanent substitute for actual safety solutions rather than temporary measures.
Morala stated that the administration is working within its legal competencies to demand that property owners address structural risks. He emphasized that if owners fail to comply with municipal requirements, the City Council will resort to 'subsidiary execution' to carry out necessary works.
Regarding specific sites, such as the former Martínez Núñez garages, the Mayor noted that an agreement is in place requiring the owner to manage waste and install proper fencing. He warned that once the current deadline expires, the council will take further action if the required measures are not implemented.
