Ponferrada to host eighth Irmandiños historical reenactment

Ponferrada is hosting the eighth edition of the Irmandiños historical reenactment, an event organized by the Caballeros de Ulver association. The festivities, which take place at the Castle of the Templars, aim to bring medieval history to life for the public.

The reenactment focuses on the Irmandiño revolt of 1467, a significant social uprising in medieval Galicia against the nobility and the high clergy. According to Gonzalo González García, president of Caballeros de Ulver, the event commemorates a period when the conflict reached the Bierzo region and Ponferrada served as a key stronghold.

The main battle is scheduled for Saturday, October 10. The event features approximately 60 reenactors from various Spanish regions, including Castilla, Extremadura, Euskadi, Toledo, and Cantabria. The weekend's program includes Saturday morning patrols and encounters, followed by Sunday activities involving armored combat, fencing, and archery.
