Pongsak Tangwanichpong wins Khon Kaen PAO by-election
Pongsak Tangwanichpong has won the Khon Kaen Provincial Administrative Organization (PAO) by-election, reclaiming his former position with a significant margin. According to unofficial election results, Pongsak (candidate number 2) secured 424,397 votes.
His primary opponent, Watthana Changlao (candidate number 1), received 254,180 votes. Other candidates included Sakda Silpardonbom with 31,380 votes and Pongnirun Uthaikanjanakul with 7,786 votes. The election was ordered by the court following a yellow card issued by the Election Commission of Thailand to the previous incumbent, Watthana.
Pongsak is a veteran local politician who previously served six terms as the Khon Kaen PAO president before resigning in September 2024. He had briefly lost the position to Watthana in the November 2024 election before this by-election was held. The results remain unofficial pending formal certification by the Election Commission.
