Ponta Delgada approves revised Municipal Director Plan

The Ponta Delgada Municipal Council has approved a revised Municipal Director Plan (PDM) through a majority vote by the PSD and PS parties. The revision aims to address local housing needs by increasing urban land availability and improving construction capacity.

Key changes include adjustments to building parameters, such as increasing construction heights in specific areas and allowing three-story buildings as a standard in consolidated urban spaces. Mayor Pedro Nascimento Cabral stated the plan promotes sustainable growth and efficient infrastructure use without relying solely on urban perimeter expansion.

The proposal faced opposition from the Chega party and the Movimento Ponta Delgada para Todos.
