Ponta Delgada inaugurates sculpture honoring Azorean milk producers

A new sculpture has been inaugurated in the Urban Park of Ponta Delgada to honor Azorean milk producers and mark the tenth anniversary of the ‘Happy Cows Milk’ (Leite de Vacas Felizes) program. Created by artist Cristina Ataíde, the work serves as a permanent tribute to the generations of farmers who have contributed to the economic and social development of the Azores.

The ceremony, held on National Sustainability Day, included representatives from BEL Portugal and local officials. Eduardo Vasconcelos of BEL Portugal noted that the program, established in 2016, focuses on animal welfare and connecting consumers to the reality of farm production.

Pedro Nascimento Cabral, President of the Ponta Delgada City Council, described the sculpture as a “just tribute” to the resilience of producers who work despite the region's challenging weather and environmental conditions. He emphasized that honoring these agricultural traditions is a vital part of preserving Azorean culture and identity.
