Ponta Delgada leaders address tourism costs and Christmas market planning
Tourism and local commerce leaders in Ponta Delgada are addressing economic challenges and seasonal planning. Gualter Couto, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ponta Delgada, noted a lack of professionalism in tourism management compared to Madeira. Additionally, João Pinheiro of the Azores Local Accommodation Association warned that upcoming low season travel prices are averaging 160 euros, double the 80 euro average seen last year, which may drive travelers to cheaper destinations.
In local development news, the Ponta Delgada City Council has opened a public auction for 12 kiosks for the Christmas Market. The market is scheduled to run from November 21 to December 24 at Praça Gonçalo Velho Cabral. The kiosks will offer a variety of goods, including regional Azorean gastronomy, sweets, pastries, and beverages, aiming to revitalize the historic center during the holiday season.
