Ponta do Sol Mayor outlines infrastructure needs during municipal anniversary

During the 525th anniversary celebrations of Ponta do Sol, Mayor Rui Marques described his first ten months in office as a “year zero,” focused on reorganizing municipal services, reviewing regulations, and preparing for new investments.

Marques presented a list of requirements to the Regional Government, requesting progress on several key infrastructure projects. These include a new primary school in the municipal seat, developments at the former marina and Lagoa do Lugar de Baixo, and improved road connections between Ribeira Brava and Calheta. He specifically highlighted the Estrada dos Anjos project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

To mark the anniversary, the municipality adopted a decentralized celebration model. The solemn session was held at the Canhas Municipal Field, part of a plan to rotate celebrations across the three parishes of the municipality—Ponta do Sol, Canhas, and Madalena do Mar—to increase community engagement.
