Ponte al Pino bridge reopens ahead of schedule in Florence

The Ponte al Pino bridge in Florence has reopened to traffic ahead of its scheduled completion date. Originally expected to reopen on September 14, the bridge was inaugurated on September 11 following the replacement of the railway crossing.

Traffic is currently restricted to two lanes, one for each direction, to allow for the completion of sidewalks and bicycle paths. Full reopening, including all lanes, is expected in November. The project utilized advanced technology from the United States to expedite the works, which were originally estimated to take a year.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local officials, including Florence Mayor Sara Funaro and Tuscany Regional President Eugenio Giani. The bridge is considered a strategic infrastructure piece, particularly as it serves a node where high-speed rail enters underground.
