Ponte do Abial bridge project in Tefé resumes after Brazilian court rulings

Construction of the Ponte do Abial in the Amazon city of Tefé has been cleared to continue after Brazil's Superior Court of Justice (STJ) lifted a lower‑court injunction that had halted the work. Mayor Nicson Marreira said the decision allows the R$130 million project to move forward, linking the city centre with the Abial, Colônia Ventura, Deus é Fiel and Conjunto Castanheiras neighborhoods and improving mobility for more than 15,000 residents. Senator Eduardo Braga welcomed the ruling, describing it as “another victory” for the people of Tefé and emphasizing the bridge’s importance for health, education, security and logistics. The court noted that the suspension risked damaging already‑installed metal sleeves and foundation piles, and affirmed that the bridge has the necessary environmental licences. The resumed work is expected to reduce travel time and support economic development in the municipality.
