Ponte San Michele project selection delayed until 2026
The selection process for the three finalist projects for the new Ponte San Michele has been delayed. The commission, tasked with evaluating over 40 proposals from an international competition, only convened on September 30, missing the original October 1 deadline.
Due to the complexity of the task, the commission is requesting an extension. According to Lombardy Region plans, the three finalists are expected to be identified by the end of 2026, which will then lead to the selection of a definitive project.
Rfi has provided clarifications regarding connectivity and road access for the new structure. While local committees have proposed alternative solutions, such as using tunnels to divert traffic away from residential areas, Rfi stated that designers must work within the competition's established perimeter. The winning designer will further explore technical and economic feasibility during the next phase.
