Pontes e Lacerda police operation ends in fatal confrontation

A police operation in Pontes e Lacerda, Mato Grosso, resulted in the death of 24-year-old Gabriel dos Santos Vilas Boas, known as “Carioca”, following an armed confrontation with security forces. The incident occurred on a Saturday afternoon during a tactical operation involving the Força Tática and the Rondas Ostensivas Táticas Metropolitanas (ROTAM).

Authorities stated that Vilas Boas was being monitored for his suspected involvement in a recent homicide, as well as alleged participation in robberies and drug trafficking. During the approach, a shootout ensued, and the suspect was struck and killed at the scene.

Police seized a .38 caliber revolver, suspected marijuana, and a precision scale at the location. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the confrontation and the original homicide investigation.
