Pontevedra launches safety sealing of abandoned mill and announces record public investment

The municipal council of Pontevedra has commissioned emergency works costing €50,000 to block and seal a disused municipal mill located near the Os Gafos riverside promenade. The building had become an informal shelter for homeless people and a site of drug use, posing safety risks for park users. The works include fencing, removal of unstable elements, waste management, consolidation of wall facings, sealing of openings and anti‑intrusion measures.

In the same period, the council reported a record annual public investment of €77.4 million, the highest in its history. The funding supports projects such as the new A Parda park, the renaturalisation of a 3.8‑km stretch of the Gafos River, the comprehensive refurbishment of Casimiro Gómez street, a future social centre in Acevedo, the overhaul of the Teatro Principal, and a major upgrade of the waste‑collection fleet with 23 new trucks and around 4,000 new containers. About €33 million of the total is already under execution, with additional financing from EU programmes.
