Pontevedra official resigns after controversial TikTok video

Álvaro Rodiño Tomé, the press chief for the Vice President of the Pontevedra Provincial Council, has resigned following a controversial TikTok video. The video, which has since been removed, featured Rodiño appearing to joke about hitting orphaned children with a golf club.

Rodíno explained that the footage was part of a viral TikTok trend where an original question is replaced during editing with an absurd or politically incorrect one to provoke a reaction. He claimed the original question was about how he would react to being attacked by a wild boar. Despite his apologies and explanation that the video was intended as a joke, political groups including the PSOE and BNG called for his dismissal.

Rafael Domínguez, the first Vice President of the Provincial Council, commented on the incident, stating that while he acknowledged the apologies and the removal of the video, he considered the joke to be in “bad taste” and noted that he would not have posted such content himself.
